- Justin Bieber who signed on with Usher and is now the biggest star at age 17
- Greyson Chance after being seen by Ellen DeGeneres for singing his version of Lady Gaga's song Paparazzi she signed him
- David Tong known for his character as Peter Chao who does comedic skits in an over exaggerated Chinese accent. He has been featured in the Vancouver Sun as well as performed at the Global ComedyFest.
- Ted Williams in which a video of him went viral just a few weeks ago for his amazing radio voice. He went from being homeless to numerous job offers along with interviews and celebrity treatment.
All of these people, along with thousands of others have become instant stars because social media has enabled users to post, comment and interact on the Internet. So far it has proven to be another great invention allowing people to communicate in another way like cellphones are. But all of this instant fame will it really last? And it's scary to think of how many people are connected to sites like Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter. Our lives are becoming almost too exposed, so now you can't post anything on Facebook without a future employer or even one of your parent's friend from seeing what you did on the weekend. Is Social Media too good to be true? Will there be a time when it will get the best of us?

It is true. You should only post on Facebook what you want others to see. Some of us have our family members and friends family members as "friends". Do you really want them seeing how you may or may not act while you are spending time with your friends? I am sure they would not appreciate some of the photos they may see of you.
ReplyDeleteAs for random people having instant fame because of youtube etc., I think why not! Clearly most of them have some sort of talent otherwise they would not be recognized. This being said, I almost feel for the other people who are struggling with trying to become musicians or comedians. These people have been working hard and then someone like Ted Williams comes along and gets deals handed to him. It's almost not fair. It goes to show that social networking, such as youtube is a huge hit! Should we all be posting videos of ourselves to hopefully one day be discovered???
I think that its crazy how people can go from random to celebrity overnight but to be honest if they are good enough, then why not?
ReplyDeleteIn times like these, someone like Ted Williams is now being given a second chance at life in a sense. think of where Ted williams might be a year from now if it wasnt for youtube.
Though it might seem unfair for some people who are working thier butts off, either you have the skills to pay the bills or you dont. even if you have the skills, you have to finda way to stand out from the crowd.
i just think that youtube is great because it provides entertainment and if you get to a certain level where people want to watch you and what you do, it can turn from something you posted for fun to something that can pay off...literally.
I agree with Cody. This may yet prove to be the Golden Age of talent where those who are truly gifted get their time in the limelight. This global community that is social media gives us the best that the connected world has to offer and I for one am happy to have this world of talent at my finger tips.
ReplyDeleteIt's true that profile like Facebook can allow people to see all your "life", your pictures, comment of your friends and stuff. But Facebook has put few options to permit to share only what you want to share. You can also create groups of friends and permit some to see this and others to don't see this. You should be carefully and have a look of he settings you can change. I have seen that in Canada, people care less about the privacy of their informations, I can access to the whole profile of a lot of people here, it's not the case in France where informations are more protected by people.
ReplyDeleteAbout the random people who can be famous thanks to YouTube I find it very cool because it allows to discover person very talented and stuff. But there are also a lot of stupid stuff you can find... Youtube is a big garbage, you just need to find the interesting stuff :)
